22 Weeks

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 22 weeks this past Sunday

Baby size: 10.5 - 11.8 inches. She's about the size of a papaya, which is interesting because I'm pretty certain I've never seen a papaya in its original form, only cut up.

Maternity Clothes: Mostly just maternity pants and my normal shirts. I finally got my two new pairs of pants from Old Navy and I love them!

Gender: Female, Olivia Michele Bainbridge.

Movement: All the time.

Cravings: Food, nothing too specific. :)

Symptoms: Acid reflux. For some reason, mine burns in my throat and not my esophagus or stomach.

Bandelier

On President's Day, Russ and I went to visit Bandelier National Monument. We spent 2+ hours hiking around the area to see the different pueblos that were inhabited hundreds of years ago.

Here's a structure that was attached to a cave in the rock face.

Russ climbing into a cave.

A picture he took from inside it.

Here I am in one of the cave windows.

The remains of an ancient dwelling.

Here's the first ladder that Russ and I climbed to get to an ancient dwelling.

And here's the 2nd ladder we had to climb.

We made it up to the cave and found another cave dug underneath it.

These deer see so many visitors throughout the year that they let us get incredibly close to them.

Heater Love

Every morning when one of us is about to shower, we turn on a little floor heater and, immediately, Pirate is right there to warm up his old joints.

He'll lay with his face inches away from it, which dries out his eyes and face but it is his favorite place to be.

And then Roxy walks in the bathroom and requires that he share the heater. Pirate's peaceful sauna is no more.

Olivia Paraphernalia

Russ and I went to World Market this weekend and picked up some art work for Olivia's room. It was 50% off and we used a gift card I received for Christmas. (Thanks Aunt Leslie and Beth!)

I love the colors! Tons of blues and greens and aquas with bits of gold, orange and pink.

And here is a collection of some of the items that we've already collected for our girl: a monster hooded towel, a Mellow Johnny's onesie (Russ picked this out right after we found out we were pregnant), a Thunder bib and two fantastic books that my mom got from her school book fair. :)

Valentine's Day Wreath

I know it's been a week since Valentine's Day but I wanted to put up a picture of a wreath I made.

It's just a styrofoam wreath with yarn wrapped around it and a flower made from some old fabric but I like it! :) I think I'll make another one for St.Patrick's Day, too.

Pregnancy Thoughts

Olivia has officially obliterated my hip bones. At the beginning of this last week, I'm certain that I could still feel the front of them and, now, no more.

Yesterday, I watched Olivia move for the first time. She was having a womb dance party and I could watch my belly bounce through my shirt.

Russ has already been looking at kiddie bikes. He's thinking about a gender neutral yellow so that it can work for all of our kids. :)

20 weeks and it's a......

GIRL!!!!! Olivia Michele will grace us with her presence after approximately 20 more weeks of cooking.

Pregnancy Highlights:
How Far Along: 20 weeks this past Sunday

Baby size: Size of a cantaloupe

Maternity Clothes: Maternity jeans, normal pants with the belly band and a dress that was Russ' Valentine's gift to me.

Gender: Female

Movement: A ton. We're talking about enrolling this girl in something that requires lots of kicking because that seems to be one of her favorite activities.

Cravings: Frozen fruit

Symptoms: Acid reflux and learning to sleep on my side.

Roxy is Three Today!

Two and a half years ago we picked up Roxy from the animal shelter.  The day was August 14th and they told us she was six months old, which meant we could say her birthday was Valentine's Day (it makes it very easy for my brain to remember).

Happy birthday to our first child!

I thought Puppy Roxy was so big, little did I know....

This was before we realized she shouldn't have toys with poly-fil. She destroys them in a blink of an eye and, inherently, consumes some of the stuffing.

Here she is, the regal princess, just a couple weeks ago. I love her!

Aww, she's so much fun!!!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day to My Honey!

Here's big shout-out to my awesome, totally cool, incredibly handsome husband! He's ever-patient, loving, hilarious, creative, diligent, focused and a whole host of other complimentary adjectives. :)

Russ and I are very different in some ways and incredibly similar in other:
  • We both have a strong love and devotion to family.
  • Our faith in God's divine plan for our lives is incredibly important.
  • We love the original Star Wars.
  • We prefer wine to beer. We took a wine tasting course at OSU and we've taken two wine tours in Sonoma (here is a walking tour that makes my heart go pitter-pat).
  • We're very detail oriented.
  • Our doggies and all their wet kisses bring joy into our lives.
  • We aren't partiers, never have been. I guess we just missed that part of the typical college student's life. My mom would say that we have old souls (sounds poetic, I think).
  • We love slapstick comedies (old-school Adam Sandler is a favorite) and almost all Pixar movies.

  • Russ loves video games and excels at them; I'm terrible.
  • I love to dance; Russ prefers to sway.
  • Russ does long-distance triathlons (like 70.3 miles total); I'm a groupie and that is all I will ever be.
  • Russ' preference for vegetables is nil; I love fresh vegetables - raw, stir-fried, roasted, etc. Delish!
  • I love romantic comedies (Sandra Bullock? Heck yea!); Russ prefers action (Vin Diesel and Arnold appear in several of his movies).
  • I LOVE musical theater; Russ tolerates it because he loves me. :)

With all these differences and similarities floating through our lives all I know is that we are stronger together then we are apart!

Pregnancy Thoughts

Here are some funny things that pregnancy has brought into my life:

At Russ' work, different people give him advice for how to deal with a pregnant wife and I love to hear them when he comes home! So far, it has been suggested that he do the dishes and vacuum (things that my husband has helped with for a long time), that he be prepared for me to be uber-hormonal (we've, fortunately, avoided this so far) and that a few weeks after the baby's birth he should send me to a spa, nail salon and/or hair salon. :)

At my work, I always feel like people check out my belly when I walk into room before they talk to me... I'm not particularly big yet but the admin whose desk is close to my office always checks my bump (or lack thereof) when she first sees me in the morning. Clearly, my belly has presence!

Facebook somehow knows I'm pregnant and gives me a ton of maternity clothing/baby gear ads on the right side of the site.

I'm trying to eat a wider variety of vegetables. It's hard when your husband can really only tolerate the mixed veggies that consist of green beans, corn, peas and carrots. I have a bag of frozen broccoli, squash and cauliflower that I'm slowly working through for my afternoon snack when I get home from work.

People always seem to ask me if my first trimester was bad... I say no because it's all relative and I totally survived. :) Then they say, "so, no morning sickness" and I have to then say that I had plenty of it but it was almost always done before 8 a.m., rarely affected my workday and protein made me feel much better most days (gotta love Slim Fast bars in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough).

That's all I got right now. I'll try to remember more of these random thoughts for posts like this in the coming months. :)

Big Dog, Tiny Space

Roxy doesn't believe that she's a big dog. She thinks it's all a figment of our imaginations.

Here she's squishing herself up onto the love seat with Russ.

Pirate decided that looked cozy and wanted join her.

And that's when Russ decides that he would rather sit with me on our big couch, instead of squished between them.

Their response to that: "Aaaah, sweet freedom." :)

Latvia...

Here's a picture of the statistics that Blogger shares with me and, yes, it says that there have been 19 pageviews originating in Latvia. Awesome, right!?!

Sorry for the very dark Blackberry pic.

Unfortunately, I'm not very good at geography and all I can think of when I hear "Latvia" is: isn't that the place the Dr. Doom was from....?

The Pouty Chair

In the last month or so, Roxy has claimed the chair in our hallway as her own. She goes there a lot because it sits over a floor heater but we like to joke that it's where she goes to pout. A lot of the time, she will sit there when we won't play with her or when there isn't room for her on the couch.

These pictures were taken over 3 or 4 days not all in one sitting, promise, she's just always there. :)

She's a funny girl! I think I'll keep her.
